Answers

Do I have to be a member of WOW® in order to attend meetings and go on rides?:  Because we are a local chapter of a national organization and don't operate as an independent club, we do require membership in WOW® after you attend three of our meetings and/or rides.  (It's a requirement of the WOW® bylaws.)

How do I find out about the rides?: Visit our forum at Delphi.  There you'll see a "Rides and Ride Suggestions" topic.  Check out the threads posted there to see what rides are coming up, meet place, time, etc.

Does your group charge monthly or annual dues?: WOW® has an annual fee of $30 for individuals, and $15 per year for support members (spouse).  WOW® tells individual chapters that they can't collect dues for the chapter, but we have a voluntary 50/50 raffle at our monthly meetings in order to have some funds in our chapter checking account for various expenses.

Do the Desert Zephyrs require members to buy patches or t-shirts to identify them with the group?:  Not at this point in time.  We're still working on our logo right now, but it's not likely that we'll require members to wear any DZ related clothing or patches.  It will be strictly voluntary.

What's an average mileage for the monthly rides?: Anywhere from 75 to 300 miles, varying from short morning jaunts to all-day tours.

Where do the Desert Zephyrs ride? The DZ's ride to breakfast and lunch, mostly.  No, seriously, we ride wherever the heck we want to.  Some upcoming organized rides for the fall of 2006 are: Saturday 10/14 - Mt. Lemmon, near Tucson; Sunday, 10/20 - Oak Creek Canyon; Saturday, 11/11 - Wickenburg; Sunday, 11/26 - Greasewood Flats (N. Scottsdale) for lunch.  We also do shorter rides around town, like Motorcycle Mania on 10/28 that takes place in downtown Phoenix.

Are there many men in the group as support members?  Right now we have just a couple of male support members.  WOW® is a family oriented group, and we don't discriminate gender wise.  If your significant other or spouse wants to ride with a group of women he is welcome to, but he shouldn't expect to lead our group - that's our job!
